Frequently Asked Questions About Protection Dogs
Find the Answers to your Protection Dog Questions
What is a family Protection Dog?
A Family Protection Dog is a highly trained and highly skilled dog that is friendly, sociable, highly intelligent and well mannered and an excellent family member. Our dogs will place themselves in harms way immediately without hesitation. We strive to equip our dogs with an imaginary light switch mentality in which they go from being a regular family member but once they recognize a threat or are commanded by you to respond to a threat, they immediately get to work to address the threat.
What Breed Should I Select for a Protection Dog?
North American K9 Services, LLC provides German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois canines imported from Europe. Both breeds are excellent candidates for working dogs and are well regarded for their work ethic and loyalty to the handler.
Why Are Some Dogs More Expensive Then Others?
We begin with dogs that have extraordinary genetics from proven work lines imported from Europe. Before our dogs are selected, they are tested and then inspected by our veterinarian in Europe to insure that there are no health issues and that our dogs will meet our expectations for work.
Once the dog arrives in the United States, we begin our training program. The dog you select will spend at least 3 months with us in our extensive training program which includes family protection, socialization and learning to be a member of a human family. The latter is important because if your dog does not understand that he is expected to have manners then he disrupts life in your home as you know it which leads to many problems.
Which Level Of Training Program Should I Select?
North American K9 Services, LLC strives to select the best canines available when importing canines from Europe. We select the top prospects available for Law Enforcement, Military or Personal Protection work.
Many dogs have a natural desire to please their master and to protect their master when their master is placed in harms way. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough. If this was, Law Enforcement agencies and the Military wouldn’t have a training program for their dogs. Protection requires specific skills and these skills require training.
We provide two levels of training because we learned that many people have different needs due to their lifestyle. We urge you to contact us and after a short consultation we can determine which level meets your needs.
How Long Will It Take To Train My Dog?
Depending on the package you select, it will take at least 3 months to train your dog. You will have documentation on the training and we will not send you a dog that will not meet your satisfaction.
How Long Will It Take To Bond With My New Dog?
It may take approximately one week to no more than one month to bond with your dog. We will provide you with all of the information you will need to make this transition a smooth one.
How Will The Dog Be Around My Children?
We ensure that your dog has been socialized around people and children. We take the time to socialize our dogs to as many children we can find in different settings for a complete experience.
Will My Dog Be Aggressive All The Time?
It’s quite the contrary. German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois’ are not aggressive and vicious dogs. They are loyal, friendly and loving companions but are very protective of the ones they love which make them great for this line of work.
